Never Chase Money

I have found that chasing money is always a losing battle!

As you begin the new year, the temptation to set money-related goals as a measure of success is very real.

Don’t do it. Why?

You can’t define success by any amount of money.

Is $200,000 of income in 2018 enough? Not if your abilities, drive, and talent are sufficient to net you $2 million this year.

Is $20,000 in 2018 enough? It certainly could be if you lived in a depressed economy location and had no ongoing expenses.

I like this advice from Larry Winget about being paid for giving the very best you have in the service of others:

Have your served your best? Have you given all you have? When you have done your best, believed your best, given your best, and served the best you possibly can, then what you have received is the right amount.

I have personally known a number of people that progressively earned more and more income during their adult lives and nearly all of them were never satisfied or happy about reaching a money goal. It was never enough, only a temporary stepping stone to a new and higher goal. Each year became a milepost in the chase for the destination of Enough.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t set goals . . . just understand that money goals are fleeting and never satisfy.  At least, that has been my experience
