McDonald’s Marketing Team Promoting Your Business?

Published

There are obvious reasons why you are going to fail at online business and Internet marketing.

Think about your probability for success if you’re approaching this Internet marketing “game” as a spectator (without real preparation, a game plan, player training, conditioning or previous game experience) who has decided to insert himself into the game where professionals play with big money, ruthless contempt for the competition, and advantageous previous game experience.

Unless you get your head on straight and adopt a simple marketing approach that is at the foundation of the largest and most profitable businesses in the world you are going to be toast!

How would you like to have McDonald’s, or Amazon’s, or Apple’s marketing team working on your little business? Would that help you promote your brand, product or service?

Oh baby!

But you know what?

You don’t need them or their resources to be totally successful on a smaller scale in your own solo business.  You can “crush it” in your niche by emulating them, by following their example and approaching marketing (in your business) as they do it.

Here is just one key example of how you can be like the biggest, most successful businesses on the planet!

Market your business strategically.

I’ve not seen a lot of newcomers doing it or even talking about it.

Do you have a marketing plan? No … that doesn’t mean you plan to market here, and plan to market there, and spend this much money, and write so many articles, and so many guest blog posts, yada, yada, yada.

Big business strategic marketing simplified for a solo business means you focus and target your resources and effort on the opportunities, strategies, venues, and systems where you can best achieve a long-term competitive advantage.

Yes, that’s a mouthful but it’s really pretty simple.

Acting strategically means that the marketing steps you take –

  • are intentional, planned, and aligned with the company mission;
  • are appropriate for the niche and the prospects;
  • have a specific and thoughtful purpose(s);
  • have a defined timeline and goal (preferred outcome);
  • have a mix and frequency determined to be optimal;
  • include a means of testing, analyzing, and modifying;
  • incorporate an understanding of the direct competition;
  • consider your business strengths, weaknesses and advantages;
  • have built-in interactivity for input and response;
  • are always designed with the customer’s wants at the forefront;
  • are designed to be dynamic and quick in responding to market changes;
  • include expansion and related-market opportunities where profitable;

The big boys are always marketing strategically and there’s no reason why your solo business can’t study, learn, and implement this same approach (but of course more simplified) to meet your own needs.

Success in IM rarely happens with a “chuck and chance it” approach.

Why not spend a little time in your business and address some or all of the marketing steps listed above.  It will help you open your mind to new ideas and possibilities even with a very small business that is just starting out.

Most of all, the steps above will help you to think of Internet marketing differently.  Instead of thinking solely about how you are going to drive traffic (which is what most new marketers concentrate their time and money on), the steps above will help you to conceptualize the broader landscape of IM and how you might set up a system of strategic moves that will play off each other based upon your marketplace, your business strengths, and the feedback of your customers in the niche.

To your online business success!
