Automate your Business
Are You Letting This Little Four Letter Word Stop You From Starting a Solo Business?
Americans dream about owning a business.
56% of recent survey respondents said that was their great ambition in life.
Yet very few ever see that dream materialize.
Most of us work for someone else from our mid twenties until our mid sixties.
That’s 40 years of our lives, roughly 83,000 hours that we spend building the businesses of others that we work for.
Bruce Judson reports that a Gallup survey of over 1 million U.S. employees found that over 70% are disengaged from their jobs.
They have no real commitment to their work or their company. 70%! Wow!
You see the rub, don’t you? Many want to own a business, yet very few ever do.
They instead work for 40 years for someone else in a job they aren’t committed to and one they could easily do without.
Why don’t we follow our dreams and create our own future? What is stopping us from following our dreams?
We are afraid . . . afraid of failing . . . afraid of not getting our bi-weekly paycheck . . . afraid of losing our company health insurance . . . afraid of having no 401K . . . afraid of not measuring up to a very vague standard of excellence . . . afraid of the unknown.
Fear stops strong men dead in their tracks.
Francis Bacon, the English philosopher, said, “It is a miserable state of mind to have few things to desire and many things to fear.”
Yes, there seems to be so many things to fear when leaving the corporate slavery ring (workforce) and entering the business ownership world.
If you sit down and make a list of everything that could go wrong or turn out bad in a new business, you’ll be surprised at just how long the list can be.
But man was not made to be afraid. Look at all the stories of success that can give you motivation and courage.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1:7
Fear can be overcome, conquered, and dispelled. And you know what? Typically when we get past our fears we look back and see that we were largely exaggerating what it was we feared.
How you meet and overcome your own fears will be a personal challenge and a great triumph.
It seems that most of those who are successful in overcoming their fears find the power deep within themselves to meet their fears head on. We are all different and need to rely on our inner strength and resourcefulness to get us beyond our fears.
Often, the solution seems to be that the entrepreneur merely sets himself in motion. He begins the journey.
He begins thinking about and working on his business and develops traction, motion, torque!
Focused and persistent action generates personal power.
The business owner grows in confidence about his own ability as he moves methodically forward, one step after the other, time and time again. Getting beyond problems and insufficiency, in and of itself, helps us to gain momentum and staying power.
Sometimes the hardest part of the journey is finding the courage to take the first step . . . and then the second . . . and then the third . . .
