A Business or a Job?

Contrary to what you might believe, there are a lot of people that love their day jobs!  I’m guessing, there are many more that love some aspects of their job but wish other things related to their employment could be changed.

No doubt, you have some real concerns about what you do for a living.  It may be that the current job you are in is fine for today, but you really would like to change the trajectory of your career path.

You probably wouldn’t be here on this site if you really truly loved your job, were completely happy with your income, and if all your fulfillment needs were being satisfied.

Unfortunately, most working folks find themselves stuck in a job working for someone else in order to pay the bills and provide a “living lifestyle” for themselves and their families.

Did you know that if you work from the age 25 until you’re 65, you will have logged 83,200 hours on the job?  That’s a long time to apply to any endeavor.

Let me ask you an important question: Is that 83,200 hours a long enough period that it would be important for you and your mental and physical well-being to enjoy how you spend that amount of time? Wouldn’t it be a tragedy to have to suffer through all those hours, one by one, all the time wishing you were doing something else?

Yet the majority of Americans, at least, spend their days:

– Doing something they have to do rather than something they want to do;

– Often not making the best use of their talents and skills or creativity;

– Not being able to determine their own desired working path or career direction;

– Not having the authority or agency to do their work as they feel it can best be done;

– Not doing what they truly love or believe is their ultimate destiny;

– Having to “make do” with the wages they earn which they don’t feel are adequate;

– Dealing with people, problems, and unpleasant tasks that they wouldn’t otherwise choose;

– Always keeping an eye out for a more suitable or more enjoyable position elsewhere;

– Looking forward to the end of each working shift, each weekend, and each vacation;

– Always harboring the thought that “someday” things will be better or “I’ll get around to doing what I really want to do with my life tomorrow.”

Two important reasons stand in the way of most employees ending their jobs and following through with their dreams of doing what they want. Both reasons have to do with money!

The most often sited reason for not quitting the job and launching into a more suitable career is that the worker can’t afford to give up the income he is receiving. He has payments to make, mouths to feed, and financial commitments that have to be met.

The second reason given is that starting a business and working for one’s self is too expensive and the money is just not available to do that right now . . . maybe it will be someday.

A recent Gallop poll found that 70% of U.S. workers are “disengaged” from their jobs. They feel no direct commitment or “buy in” to their employer and are only there because they have to be in order to draw their wage. 70% . . . that’s a lot of uncommitted, and most likely, unhappy workers!

So, it seems, there is a great paradox of “the job” for a great majority of working adults. It is this:

Most folks are willing and able to work. They want to find satisfaction and fulfillment in a job well done. They desire to work doing things they enjoy and things they’re good at. They are willing to work hard for their income.

But . . .

Most jobs (70% of them) are filled by people who are not satisfied or fulfilled and are making less than they feel they should, often not using their talents and skills in the best ways possible.

So, what is an employee to do?

Well, this blog is all about that subject. Here are the five easy steps that most workers can follow in order to break through the job paradox trap:

1- Identify what you really want to do.
2- Find a market niche that will pay you to do it.
3- Start a small solo business “on the side” in your chosen marketplace.
4- Automate and leverage your business to grow it sufficiently to meet your needs.
5- Transition from your job into your new career.

We’re here to help you along each step of the way with great information, tools, resources, and help.

Yes, there is much greater detail that fills in the “how” of each step.  As with most great accomplishments … the devil is in the details!  These five steps alone are just a very high level view and most people won’t be able to complete each step without further education and training on the details of what is necessary to be successful.

But this is a doable plan and it addresses the two major reasons why most people can never make the break from their job: (1) the need for current income and, (2) the lack of money to start a new business.

Stick with us and you’ll be given everything you need to declare your own independence!
